WASHINGTON — In filling four senior Justice Department positions Monday, President-elect Barack Obama signaled that he intends to roll back Bush administration counterterrorism policies authorizing harsh interrogation techniques, warrantless spying and indefinite detentions of terrorism suspects.
One of the refreshing things about Dawn Johnsen's appointment is that she's almost a 180-degree shift from John Yoo and David Addington and (Vice President) Dick Cheney," said Harvard University law professor Laurence Tribe, referring to the main legal architects of the administration's approval of harsh interrogation tactics.
That's great to hear :)
Especially of the prospect of undoing everything that Bush and Cheney did over the past 8 years.
Yes, it is hopeful. We will see if they can get through the confirmation process.
Regardless, I think it sends a strong message.
obama will ultimately be judged by the appointments he makes, and from what i've seen so far, he is going to be judge as being brilliant for who he wants to give him advice, help set policy, and most importantly, tell him 'NO', when he makes the wrong decisions.
obama, hell, all presidents, are better served by and when those they have gathered to serve us, weigh in on that presidents decisions and tell him where he is making grave errors in judgment. bush, and cheney only wanted those that would carry out orders unquestioningly...sound familiar??? you cannot govern, appropriately and intelligently, with a bunch ass-kissing sycophants who will pander to your darker instincts !!!
luv,
ron
Agreed. I am very hopeful so far that Obama's administration will be able to un-do some of the damage.
It would not be difficult to do a better job than the current administration.
Yes, hope is a good thing.
